Material Testing & Sample Separation Trials
Test Your Own Material Before You Invest
BlakerTech’s in-house material testing service removes uncertainty from magnetic and density separation projects. At our dedicated R&D and test facility, customers can process their own materials through our separation equipment before committing to a full-scale installation.
By running your material through the MagThro Eddy Current Separator, SandFlo Density Separator and MagDrum Magnetic Drum, we generate accurate performance data based on measured recovery rates and material composition.
Sample testing allows you to see how BlakerTech equipment performs with your material, evaluate separation efficiency, and make informed, evidence-based investment decisions.
Decades of Industry Experience
BlakerTech brings decades of combined experience in the design and manufacture of magnetic separation equipment, alongside practical involvement in metal recycling operations.
Our team has a comprehensive understanding of the metal recycling sector and extensive expertise within the industry. We recognise the operational demands, material variability and commercial pressures that recyclers manage daily.
This combination of manufacturing and processing knowledge ensures that every material trial is evaluated from both an engineering and operational perspective. The outcome is practical, ensuring technically sound guidance aimed at increasing metal recovery, minimising losses and ensuring consistent performance under real operating conditions.
Why Material Testing Is Important
Every material stream behaves differently. Factors such as particle size, moisture content, contamination levels and metal composition all influence separation performance.
Testing allows us to:
- Determine achievable recovery rate
- Assess product purity
- Identify metal remaining in waste fractions
- Confirm correct machine selection and specification
This approach reduces investment risk and ensures equipment is correctly sized and configured from the outset.
Material trials are particularly valuable if you are:
- Reviewing losses from existing separation systems
- Assessing metal content within waste streams
- Looking to improve recovery rates
- Considering investment in new separation equipment
How the Testing Process Works
- Material Received
You supply a representative sample of your material. We typically recommend around 100kg sample. - Initial Assessment
Our team assesses the material and agrees the objectives of the trial with you. - Controlled Processing
The material is processed through the most appropriate equipment. During testing, operational settings may be adjusted, including: - Feed rate
- Drum speed
- Rotor speed (eddy current systems)
- Air settings (where applicable)
- Separation & Measurement
Recovered ferrous and non-ferrous metals are weighed and recorded. Remaining waste and drop fractions are also measured to establish a complete performance breakdown. - Reporting
You receive a clear summary of results, including recovery percentages and performance observations. Throughout the trial, photographs and video footage are captured to provide full visibility of the process.
Where required, separated product samples can be returned for independent inspection or downstream validation.
Production-Scale Equipment, Meaningful Results
All testing is carried out using full-scale industrial machinery to ensure results are directly relevant to installation performance.
Our engineering team is present throughout the trial to discuss:
-
System performance
-
Opportunities for improved recovery
-
Integration into existing processing lines
-
Recommended equipment configuration
The objective is to provide clear, commercially grounded recommendations based on measured performance.
