Turning Waste into Value: MagThro™ Eddy Current Separator Recovers Fines Others Miss
29/08/2025
This case study highlights how the MagThro™ Eddy Current Separator helps recyclers uncover value from fractions often written off as waste.

Customer background
A customer operating a granulation plant approached BlakerTech with a sample from their waste fines stream. Produced by an existing eddy current separator line, the material contained plastics and printed circuit boards (PCBs) mixed with small fragments of non-ferrous metals including aluminium, copper, and brass.
The challenge
The customer believed this stream was waste with no recovery value, destined for landfill. Rising disposal costs and pressure to maximise recovery led them to ask BlakerTech whether any value could be extracted from what they considered a non-usable fraction.
Our solution
The sample was tested using the MagThro™ Eddy Current Separator, engineered to separate non-ferrous metals from complex waste streams with accuracy and consistency. With its high-energy rare-earth rotor and precision splitter design, the MagThro is particularly effective at processing fine and difficult materials.
The results
The outcome demonstrated the real value hidden within the so-called “waste” stream. The MagThro successfully recovered additional volumes of aluminium, copper, and brass down to sub -1mm particles. To illustrate the scale of recovery, a photograph shows the recovered metals compared against a one pence coin.
Customer feedback
The client was genuinely impressed. A material they had previously considered worthless was shown to deliver both financial and environmental benefits: generating additional revenue while diverting volumes away from landfill.
Conclusion
This case study highlights how the MagThro™ Eddy Current Separator helps recyclers uncover value from fractions often written off as waste. By maximising non-ferrous metal recovery and reducing landfill disposal, the system delivers both commercial and sustainability gains.
