The Oxford English Dictionary defines "disposal" as "the act of getting rid of something, often by throwing it away." But in reality, nothing ever truly disappears. In waste management, disposal simply means transferring materials to another state or location. It’s a concept we urgently need to rethink, not just as a society, but as individuals, businesses, and educators.

more >The UK is taking significant steps to secure critical mineral supplies, most recently demonstrated by the revival of the historic South Crofty tin mine in Cornwall. Backed by a £28.6 million investment from the National Wealth Fund, the site is undergoing extensive dewatering and modernisation ahead of a planned return to production by late 2027. Once operational, South Crofty will bring higher-grade, domestically sourced tin to market, reducing reliance on imports from China, Myanmar, and Indonesia.

more >Closing the Loop: How Metal Recycling Supports a More Sustainable Future - As the UK continues to focus on sustainable industry and circular supply chains, metal recycling is playing an increasingly important role. While renewable technologies such as solar power and electric vehicles attract widespread attention, the sustainable sourcing and recovery of the metals that enable these technologies is equally critical. Without an efficient and environmentally responsible approach to managing metal resources, long-term sustainability targets will be difficult to achieve.

more >Biomass is booming. In 2024, bioenergy contributed 40.1 Terawatt-hours (TWh) to the UK’s electricity generation – accounting for 27.7% of all renewable electricity produced. As the sector continues to grow, so too does the need to address one of its major operational challenges: metal contamination in wood waste. At BlakerTech, we help biomass operators overcome this issue with the MagThro™ eddy current separator – a powerful, UK-built system that efficiently separates both ferrous and non-ferrous metals from contaminated wood and waste material.
